Best of June in the Sierra!

What? It’s June already?! That means summer is coming, which in Tahoe/Truckee means so many fun things about to happen you can’t even keep track. And most of the good stuff is outside. Here’s just a smidgen of the ways to enjoy Tahoe outdoors:

Exercise

You can road bike, mountain bike, hike, backpack, run, paddleboard, kayak, canoe, climb, waterski, wakeboard and just about anything else you can think of to enjoy the outdoors by yourself or with your friends, or you can join in the fun with a larger group of folks and test your stamina. Here are just a few June events

Tough Mudder June 9-10, Northstar. See if you are tough enough to take on a challenging obstacle course with a group of friends.
Tour De Manure, June 16. Sierraville. An awesome metric century road ride around the wildflower and bird filled Sierra Valley followed up with great food, drink and lots of Tahoe folks.

Eating:

Farmers Markets-Summer is the time to sample the harvest of local and regional farmers, ranchers and fishers. You can find one near you almost every day:

Truckee -Tuesday at the Regional Park 8-1 pm
Tahoe City -Thursday at The Commons Beach, 8-1 pm
Incline Farmers Market- Thursday 4-7pm at the library parking lot
Truckee Thursdays Downtown at night
Sierra Valley Farmers Market on the Sierra Valley Farm, Fridays in Beckwourth 9-2 pm

You don’t want to cook it, you just want to eat it? Take a trip to Reno for Food Truck Friday when about 35 food trucks line up in Wingfield Park along the Truckee River close to downtown Reno, between 4-9 pm.

Music

One of the highlights of summer is that it is warm enough to play music outside at awesome venues.

Sunday: Summer Concerts on the Beach, Tahoe City. Is there a finer place to listen to music then along the beach? Throw your blanket down on a piece of grass and spend half the time watching the band and the other half gazing out onto the lake. Or better yet, kayak into the event and listen to the music just off-shore.

Tuesdays, Bluesdays in Squaw Valley. Hang out listening to the Blues in the Village surrounded by the high peaks of Squaw Valley.

Thursday: Truckee Thursday. Enjoy wandering through the craft show and food trucks, before settling into some great music, which often includes a chorus by a train roaring by just a few feet away.

Friday.Music on the Beach, Kings Beach. Head to the sand in the center of Tahoe City. Bring a folding chair, or get your feet wet in the lake while watching the band.
