Snowfest has marked the first week of March at North Lake Tahoe since 1981. It’s a week of celebrations, parties and athletic competition that is designed to bring people together to enjoy the late winter-early spring at Tahoe. It returns this year from February 28-March 8th with lots of great events: Some new, and some that have been going on for decades. Check out the full calendar of events at tahoesnowfest.org.
Here are a few highlights from the first and last weekend of Snowfest:
February 28th and 29th are Tahoe City Days, as the focus will be on events in my hometown lakeside burg. On Friday the 28th head to the Pioneer Cocktail Club Block Party from 2:30 to 7:30 pm and then don’t miss the Tahoe City Fireworks Show at 7:30 pm at the Tahoe City Winter Sports Park (Golf course). There is something cool about fireworks over the snow.
Then celebrate the Leap Year in style by spending Saturday, February 29th in Tahoe City. Begin early with the Tahoe City Firefighters Pancake Breakfast from 7-11 am, followed by the Tahoe City Parade from 11:30 to 12:30. The parade is always a classic small town get together and attracts a great crowd.
After the parade don’t leave town for a few more hours. Pete and Peters is hosting a parade party just off the parade route, while just up the street at The Cobblestone, Haus Brewfest will celebrate beer and music with five breweries, three bands, and food trucks! Proceeds benefit the Shane McConkey Foundation.
But wait, a bit further down North Lake Blvd. is the Tahoe Community Nursery School Winter Party and Fundraiser at 1-3 pm. There you will find food, a silent auction, music, and fun! Proceeds benefit Tahoe Community Nursery School, which has been making life fun for Tahoe kids for over 40 years.
Last stop on Saturday is Garwoods in Carnelian Bay at 2:30 pm for the Polar Bear Swim. You could even be one of the crazy people who joins in the swim race in the freezing temperatures of February in Lake Tahoe.
On March 7th, the fun travels to Kings Beach. Begin your day with the North Tahoe PUD Pancake Breakfast from 8:30 to 10:30. Then the Dress up your Dog party from 9:30 to 11, followed by the Kings Beach Parade from 11:30 to 12:30. Don’t worry, the Tahoe City and Kings Beach parade each reflect the unique style and personalities of their communities, and both are worth a gander.
